2006-02-02 15:15:00

For the first time in history, there will be an awards ceremony in Hollywood to recognise the best the poker world has to offer.

Already being dubbed the 'poker Oscars' the huge event, titled the Card Player's Player of the Year Awards Gala, will take place on February 15th, according to onlinepoker-news.

Among those who will be receiving acclaim for their poker playing will be Men "The Master" Nguyen who will be presented with Card Player's 2005 "Player of the Year" award.

The award will be Nguyen's fourth such distinction and he will also take home a free $10,000 seat at the World Series of Poker main event.

Poker's very own "Texas Dolly", Doyle Brunson, will be honoured at the event with the organisation's "Lifetime Achievement Award".

Other categories that are up for grabs include "Most Underrated Player" and "Best Cash Game Player" and Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Barry Greenstein are some of the players that will contest these categories.

Fans of the hit show Everybody Loves Raymond will also have a treat as Brad Garrett, better known for his role as policeman Robert Barone in the show, will be hosting the event.
