Doyle Brunson investigated

2006-02-06 12:40:00

Poker legend Doyle Brunson is facing an ongoing investigation into his poker-related ventures.

And in an important case development regarding his online poker activities, Doyle's poker room operator has been placed under subpoena, according to online-pokernews.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has placed Wallace Nakano, the DoylesRoom.com online poker operator under subpoena.

Nakano is alleged to have had a connection to takeover activities involving the poker site's namesake Doyle Brunson and the World Poker Tour (WPT).

The proceedings relate to events last July where Brunson and a group of anonymous investors presented a $700 million takeover bid to the WPT.

As a consequence WPT stock jumped by a considerable 66 per cent in one day, but since then the bid has expired with the stock price waning.

The SEC has been investigating Brunson and his poker dealings since that time, with the subpoena the latest in a series of tactics used to further the investigation.
