The state representative for North Dakota, Jim Kasper, has renewed his drive to bring online gambling to the state.
It is illegal under US law for online poker rooms to be based in the states so all firms are currently based offshore, despite the fact that the majority of online poker players are based in America.
Kasper has been the driving force behind a movement to make it legal for online poker to be based in North Dakota.
He advocates the idea as he believes that the tax revenues gained would be of huge benefit to state programs.
The proposal even got as far as being passed as a bill in the state house of representatives last year, but it failed when motioned at the senate.
However there are inherent problems in trying to legalise online poker rooms in the US, according to Kasper.
In a statement, he said that he had found it difficult to raise funds from any of the big names in the online poker industry a fact he found ironic given the sums of money involved in the billion-dollar industry.
