Online poker to become biggest WPT revenue

Online poker is to overtake TV programmes as the top source of revenue for World Poker Tour (WPT) Enterprises.

WPT company officials believe that this change is likely to occur in the next few years along with the continuing growth and popularity of online gambling.

Company data from WPT has shown that in the last quarter of 2005, product licensing fees were around $4.3 million while the WPTOnline brand brought in $694,000.

The online poker industry is expected to grow seven fold by 2010, with industry experts touting total revenue figures of around $6.7 billion, which would be a $1 billion increase on the 2004 figures.

A recent joint poll by Online Gambler Magazine and gaming firm InterCasino found that almost one in ten online casino and poker players would consider quitting their day jobs to play online professionally.
