WFP aims to unite poker players

2006-02-17 15:40:00

The newly formed World Federation of Poker (WFP) is planning to unite poker players from across the world and also systematize the way the game is played.

WFP is a not-for-profit organisation and has enlisted the services of a number of the industry's top pros. The advisory panel includes Annie Duke, Howard Lederer, Marcel "The Flying Dutchman" Luske and Thomas Bihl.

As well as offering informed advice, the WFP envisages that these pros will act to promote the federation's business around the world.

The WFP is headlining its launch with a new poker event called the World Cup of Poker, which will divide players into four categories including amateurs, seniors, students and professionals.

Reports suggest that competitors will be representing over 40 countries and events are in the pipeline for such far flung destinations as Taiwan, Austria and Macau.
