2006-03-22 14:23:21

A student in the United States has won a whopping $1 million playing poker on his spring break.

The 22-year-old took part in a tournament on board a Caribbean cruise ship after his friends qualified for the event online.

Mike Schneider borrowed cash from his friends to buy into the Limit Hold'em PokerParty.com Million V tournament on board the MS Westerdam.

The University of Minnesota senior had not intended to take part in the competition when he booked the spring break cruise and did not decide to enter until the night before it started.

Schneider, who is majoring in journalism, told the Minnesota Daily: "It is really shocking for me to even think about being a millionaire. I try not to think about the money too much, because it has never been a priority in my life."

The student has been playing poker for four years and plans to turn professional after he finishes his degree.
