A new book about poker examines the success of British professional players on the world stage.
Published on June 16th, ahead of the 2006 World Series of Poker, Swimming With The Devilfish - Under The Surface Of Professional Poker was written by Des Wilson who spent six months immersed in the poker circuit.
The book examines the rise in poker in the UK from old back alley games to the cash games of English casinos, such as the Grand Victoria, and the rapid growth of internet gambling.
Publisher Macmillan intends to release the book, which includes a lengthy piece about British poker professional David 'Devilfish' Ulliott, in the UK this June and in the US at a later date.
Wilson travelled across Britain, around Europe and to Las Vegas for the 2005 World Series of Poker for the book, watching some of the UK's top poker players, including Dave Colclough, Willie Tann and the Hendon mob.
The book covers more than 30 players and analyses the differences between older players and the rising young stars that are emerging on the poker circuit.
