An online poker player has turned his passion for online poker from a hobby into a very lucrative career.

The player, named only as Trey, started playing poker online in early 2004 and continued to hone his internet poker skills.

He started playing after seeing television adverts for online poker and speaking to friends who had tried it. Losing $50 in his first two hours online, he became determined to work out the best way to beat the weaker players online and went and bought a couple of books on the subject.

Having quit college and bartending for poker, Trey now earns around $17,000 dollars a month, more than he used to make in a year, and is keen to shares his secret with other fans of poker websites.

In an article for the Apex Gaming, Trey said: "After learning about strategy and gaining an understanding for the game, I knew that I could be a winning player if I wanted to. It was pretty early on that I simply decided that I was going to beat the game. No turning back, I chose to be a winning player."

Trey, 23, will not reveal any of his online poker screen names, but claims to have won hundreds of thousands of dollars online and is thoroughly enjoying his new career.

He analyses his play, treating playing poker as a business, and keeps track of all his winning and losing sessions, finding his weak spots and honing his skills.
