Hellmuth discusses Celebrity Poker Showdown

2006-05-17 16:45:00

Poker legend Phil Hellmuth has been talking about his current role as a co-host of the Bravo television show Celebrity Poker Showdown.

Hellmuth has won nine World Series of Poker bracelets in his time and is one of the best respected players in the game, but he has told PokerNews.com that his other commitments are preventing him from playing as much poker as he would like.

The eighth series of Celebrity Poker Showdown starts on May 31st and Hellmuth and Dave Foley will be on hand to relay all the action from New Orleans.

In a lengthy interview Hellmuth said that he believed the stars on Celebrity Poker Showdown were getting really good, specifically comedian Michael Ian Black, Jennifer Tilly, Bryan Cranston of Malcolm In The Middle and Seinfeld's Jason Alexander.

The latest series of Celebrity Poker Showdown was filmed in the Louisiana city of New Orleans, devastated by Hurricane Katrina last year, and Hellmuth said he was delighted that the programme had donated $1 million to the celebrities' charities of choice and was raising the profile of relief efforts.

Hellmuth is also involved in a pharmaceutical company called Applied Health Solutions, provides poker information for IAmplify.com, as well as presenting, but his first love remains poker and he is keen to get back to the tables this year now that filming for Celebrity Poker Showdown has finished.

The player will compete at this year's World Series and predicts that the game will continue to go from strength to strength.
