Fischman to appear at NPL

2006-05-24 17:10:00

World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Scott Fischman will appear at this year's National Poker League (NPL) tournament.

Poker legend Fischman, who was recently signed by InterPoker, will be joined by Oliver Nejad to provide commentary, analysis and daily tips during the contest.

The NPL will take place at Caesars Palace this June and will be screened on high definition TV (HDTV) via the INHD cable network.

The inaugural season of the contest for young and up-and-coming poker players will feature smaller buy-ins than other competitions, opening it up to players who may not have the bankroll to take part in a WPT season.

NPL president Nene Gonzales said in a statement: "What we're striving for is to be the poker tournament for players with smaller bankrolls and lots of game. They may even become TV stars in the process."

Consisting of ten $1,060 initial buy-in tournaments, a semi-final heads-up round, and a final table tournament, the first season of the televised circuit tournament starts with the Vegas Open on June 2nd at Caesars Palace. Open to the public, the five heads-up NPL winners will advance to the final table to play for $100,000 in bonus cash.
