Lederer joins PPA

2006-06-14 11:25:00

Howard Lederer will join the board of directors for the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), it was announced yesterday.

A poker-pro himself, Lederer will take on his duties immediately at the 27,000 member strong PPA.

A strong advocate of online gaming, he will join a number of other prestigious PPA members on the board including Linda Johnson, Greg Dinkin, Mary Magazine and Jan Fisher.

Lederer made a name for himself in the poker world by pioneering a dedicated approach to no-limit Texas Hold'Em play. After moving to Vegas in 1993, he went on to make history when he was the first man to face his sister – Annie Duke – in the same final table at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

He said: "The Poker Players Alliance's mission is critically important as the game has increasingly come under attack. The challenge of promoting and protecting poker is the reason I joined the PPA as a member and wanted to get personally involved by joining the PPA board of directors.

"Poker is under attack by Congress, and I believe that all poker players should join the PPA and tell Capitol Hill that we do not want the Federal government to ban an American tradition that we love."
