Youngest ever WSOP finalist

2006-06-20 10:20:00

A 21-year-old student from Alabama has set a new world record for becoming the youngest player to reach a final table of the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

Shannon Shorr from Alabama College became the youngest player to reach a final table at a WSOP no limit circuit event at Harrah's Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

And Mr Shorr's winning streak didn't stop there when the youngster went on to set a record the following day as he became the youngest-ever player to make two consecutive final tables.

The 21-year-old amassed around $40,000 for his second and third place finishes in the Nevada event.

Like so many players nowadays, Mr Shorr – who only just became legally old enough to play in the US - plied his trade online learning to play poker in tournaments across the world.

He has also played in tournaments in Vienna, Barcelona and the Bahamas as well as winning $250,000 for a fourth place finish in the Aussie Millions Championship in Melbourne.

The young whippersnapper will also be taking part in the WSOP main event later this year, having already gained his qualification.
