William Chen, a math PhD, has won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) event netting himself just under $350,000 in the process.
Chen has hit the ground running as the WSOP calendar really gets going with events six and seven fast approaching.
He beat 415 other players in the $3,000 Texas Hold'Em event to win $343,618 and also his first-ever WSOP bracelet.
Chen beat some stiff competition to win the event including Danny Ciasmella, Jeff Lisandro, Yuegi Zhu, Ernie Scherer, Allan Puzantyan and Henry Nguyen.
The final table comprised of Chen and Zhu and saw three hours of top-notch heads-up play that culminated in Chen's sixth ever cash prize win.
And what next for the math genius? Well, Chen is planning to release a new poker book come the fall which will be titled The Mathematics of Poker and focus on the laws of probability involved in the game.
