A number of poker players have filed a lawsuit against the World Poker Tour (WPT) in what is being described as a watershed moment for the game.
Some seven players have brought legal proceedings against the WPT for unlawfully attempting to eliminate competition.
They are claiming that the contract players must sign to play on WPT events infringes upon other contract negotiations they may have.
The group also states that the WPT is attempting to violate their image and likeness rights.
"Our success in this lawsuit will benefit all current and future poker players. I am proud to be part of it," said player Greg Raymer.
The players hope that a court ruling would force the WPT to change the wording of the document so that players' rights are no longer violated when they sign.
In addition, they hope to receive pecuniary damages for the use of players' likenesses on WPT products.
Leading poker stars such as Andy Bloch and Greg Raymer have, in the past, missed events for over a year due to the wording of the document.
