Report looks at online gaming's hottest topics

2006-08-01 17:10:00

A new report has highlighted some of the leading trends and hot topics in online gaming.

The study by MECN, which is the result of surveys with 60 of the leading experts in the field, has found that skill games, fantasy sports and online bingo are among the genres creating most interest at the moment.

These sectors are currently of particular interest due to the increasing likelihood that an online gambling prohibition bill will be passed by the Senate, meaning online casinos and betting exchanges will be subject to far greater controls.

Areas such as bingo and skill games are not expected to be hit with much restriction, prompting MECN to predict significant growth in these areas.

Some 63 per cent of casual gamers are thought to be women and the market is expected to be worth $1 billion by 2010.

In addition, 93 per cent of those polled believe that Europe is the most important region for the growth of casual gaming.
