2006-08-07 10:30:00

Jamie Gold is in the lead after four days of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event with a chip stack of $3.7 million.

This year's WSOP Main Event is a significant one as it contains the largest entry field ever, while day four often proves an important one as the large field begins to see a stark divide.

And it is not just the weak that are separated from the entry field at this stage with some big names making some surprise exits &ndash celebrated pro Daniel Negreanu played with his dwindling chips for as long as he could before he was forced into an early exit.

Last year's winner, Joe Hachem, also came up short in his WSOP effort this year and despite receiving tumultuous applause throughout burn out in 238th place.

Other mentionable exits at this stage include Kathy Liebert, David Chiu, Hans 'Tuna' Lund, Ted Forrest and Tom McEvoy.

But now attentions will turn to the remaining competitors in the event and particularly to those, such as Jamie Gold, who are basking in a strong chip count.

The top five players at present are Jamie Gold with $3.7 million in chips, Max Reele with $2.3 million, Jim Routos with $2.2 million, Kyle Bowker with $2.2 million and Michael Binger with $1.8 million.
