2006-08-08 17:15:00

Jamie Gold remains in the lead at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event with just 27 competitors left in the tournament.

The 36-year-old Californian poker pro is way ahead of the pack with a chip stack hovering around the $13,000,000 mark.

His nearest rival is Erik Frihberg is currently on $7.7 million in chips with just three days left to play. Tuesday will see the field of 27 whittled down to 18, which will be followed by a further cut of 19 on Wednesday and the last nine players will take part in 2006 WSOP Main Event Final Table on Thursday.

The 36-year old was formally a Hollywood agent for starts from hit TV series such as Desperate Housewives and The Sopranos.

This year's final WSOP line-up has been notable for the lack of big names still participating at this late stage. No former WSOP Main Event winners are still involved although the WSOP Player of the Year Allen Cunningham is still in the running for the whopping $11 million first prize.
