People would rather play a casual game of poker than go to the cinema, a new survey has revealed.
According to the Reuters report, nearly a third of adults would rather spend a free hour gaming than watching television, with similar figures for the cinema.
Michael Schutzler, of RealNetworks which commissioned the study, said he was "very surprised" by some of the findings, especially for the figures for women over 40.
Overall, nearly half of gamers said that would rather casually game that visit the cinema, a third chose games over films at home and 37 per cent chose games over TV.
RealNetworks commissioned the survey to understand trends at the site which began offering games six years ago.
It did not start well but by adding Bejewelled, it sold hundreds, which made the company keen to find out more about its demographics.
Women's lifestyle expert Jennifer Louden added that the findings should go some way to changing advertising methods and "sensitivity" on sites, particularly for older women.
