Allegations that the current World Series of Poker champion, Jamie Gold, agreed to split his winnings with a British television producer have taken a new twist.
Bruce Crispin Leyser claims that he and Mr Gold had agreed on a deal to split the winnings prior to the start of play on the final table but that he has refused to pay.
Mr Leyser has now claimed in his lawsuit that a taped telephone conversation will prove the matter.
The proposed payment to Mr Leyser is thought to have been in return for his recruiting celebrities to back the Bodog Group, which are the poker star's sponsors.
Mr Leyser claims that Mr Gold told him during the conversation: "I promise you, you can keep this recording on my word, there's no possible way you're not going to get your half ... after taxes."
Mr Gold insisted through his lawyer and publicist that he was disappointed that a "a person he has only known since July of this year has elected to file litigation rather than continue the parties' discussions in an effort to find a resolution to this matter".
The tournament's organisers, Harrah's Entertainment, have frozen the prize money until the case has been cleared up.
