2006-09-05 17:15:00

Dan Marino, the well-known National Football League (NFL) player, has been at Niagara Fallsview Casino this month preparing it for an upcoming World Poker Tour (WPT) event.

Fellow Miami Dolphins fans Jim McMahon and Mark Rypien &ndash both quarterbacks themselves &ndash were also in attendance.

Marino was taking part in a celebrity poker tournament to promote the $2,500 buy-In WPT Canadian Open due to take place from October 22nd to October 24th in Fallsview Casino.

Ice hockey star Grant Fuhr was the highest placed celebrity entrant and finished in seventh place &ndash retired financial adviser James Schiebel won the event.

Fallsview will also hold another high profile poker event in the form of the $10,000 buy-in North American Poker Championship on October 25th.

As one of the first WPT tournaments to be held outside of the traditional US poker hot spots, analysts are gauging the success of the upcoming Canadian WPT event with extra interest.
