Glenne claims EPT victory

2006-09-18 17:40:00

Norwegian Bjorn-Erik Glenne has taken the title at this year's European Poker Tour (EPT), emerging victorious at the three-day event in Barcelona.

Of the 480 players who took part in this year's event, 118 of them had qualified through online poker tournaments.

Glenne muscled his way into the final 13 with a chip count of 955,400, lying second behind Jeff Lisandro.

But despite coming into the event as one of the favourites, Lisandro came up against an in-form Phil Ivey, who had a memorable weekend and played some outstanding poker over the three days of competition, and was promptly dumped out.

Although Ivey seemed to be on top with the cards running for him, his luck eventually ran out and the momentum moved to Glenne, who played with courage and aggression over the course of the match, eventually taking the title in a heads up play against Ivey.

The win sees Glenne walk away with the title and a cool €691,000 in prize money.
