2006-10-05 14:15:00

With the Federal Unlawful Gambling Enforcement Act widely expected to be signed in to law by George W Bush over the coming weeks, InterPoker has announced the bad news to its US customers.

The firm said that it is no longer accepting bets from US residents and that it closed their accounts on October 3rd.

Customers will receive their remaining balances, minus any uncleared bonuses, refunded to them via check over the course of the coming weeks.

"As the world's oldest and most respected online casino we very much hope in the months to come that the USA will see fit to license and regulate online gaming so that we can once again offer our services to you," the company's manager, Ryan Hartley, said in a statement issued to its many US-based players.

Mr Hartley signed off apologizing for the inconvenience of the decision and thanking players for their patronage over the years.

The enforcement act has long been talked about still came as a shock to many of the US citizens who enjoy gambling online.
