A new book is setting out to clear the confusion that surrounds the seemingly endless string of poker phrases.
Drawing Dead to a Gutshot trawls through every specialist phrase and word you could ever expect to hear at a poker table, and some more colorful terms you might not want to.
Available now from Barricade Books, the author Brant Janeway &ndash himself a seasoned poker player &ndash digs through the game's past to cast light over common phrases and truly obscure ones like brass Brazilians and zooted.
However, professional reaction to the book has been mixed, with gaming sites such as readybetgo.com recommending it for "the significant other who has to attend and watch you play poker but doesn't know a thing about the game".
Coming from a completely different angle, pokernews.com criticizes the book for not explaining "how long the terms in the book had been used and if they were still popular as well," noting that many more colorful phrases included in the book have disappeared out of the game.
While there seems to be some disagreement between the critics, what this book is undoubtedly useful for is as a reference guide to your own games or following the pro competitions on television.
