Skycity to host inaugural North Island poker championships

Skycity Auckland is hosting the first-ever North Island Poker Championships this weekend, with cash prizes and entry into the New Zealand Poker Championships in Christchurch up for grabs.

The No Limit Texas Hold-em contest will take place between 21st and 23rd October and there will be heats of the three-day knock-out tournament during the first two days.

The North Island Poker Championships Grand Final will be held on the last day of the event, featuring 60 competitors and the event will inaugural crown the first North Island Poker Champion.

Skycity general manager, David Christian, told Scoop.co.nz: "With this tournament there are unlimited entry spots for the heats, so the prize pool should be impressive. Entries will be accepted right up to the start of the tournament."

Winners of satellite heats at Skycity Auckland and Skycity Hamilton will travel to Auckland for the weekend to compete for the grand prize against direct entry players.
