The World Series of Poker may not take online qualifiers for the 2007 tournament, according to recent reports.
The PokerPlayersNewsletter said Harrah's will "most likely not" take online competitors because of complications with the new legislation in the US, driving many stellar card players away from their favourite online table.
Harrah's and the WSOP stand to lose millions, according to the PokerPlayersNewsletter report, from websites that would in turn be title sponsors for the event like last year's PartyPoker.
Traditionally, the winners online satellites would win the value of their WSOP buy-in but since the new US federal legislation outlaws gambling and a recent wave of online poker lounge CEO arrests, Harrah's isn't going to take any chances by associating with online play.
Until something changes in the current climate, Harrah's will take entrants from traditional brick-and-mortar based satellite tournaments.
Gambling 911.com is concerned for the city of Vegas over Harrah's internet hesitation, that the new WSOP mentality will prevent people from going to the tournament after following their favourites online.
