2006-10-31 15:59:41

A London-based poker player has taken home the near $700,000 first prize from the European Poker Tour tournament in Dublin, creating a unique double in the process.

Roland De Wolfe, from London, England, whose career winnings now total almost $2.5 million, fought off 389 other players to triumph in the Irish capital.

In doing so Mr De Wolfe becomes the first person to have ever won an event on both the European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour (WPT) circuits.

Mr De Wolfe said he was "thrilled" to have achieved the feat, having won the WPT season four Grand Prix de Paris earlier in his career

"This week I didn't have the luck of the Irish, I had the luck of the whole of Europe," he added.

Other famous faces competing in the event included British group the Hendon Mob and 2003 World Series of Poker champion Chris Moneymaker.

The European Poker Tour has been running since 2004, and was set up by John Duthie, the first ever winner of the Poker Million tournament.
