A leading financial institution has come up with a unique recruiting technique &ndash having candidates compete against one another in a poker tournament.
Susquehanna International Group, which deals with investment banking, venture capital and private equity-based issues, came up with the idea as a means of testing their potential employee's analytical skills.
The Texas Hold'em tournament featured 83 invitees from the country's top colleges, including the California Institute of Technology and Columbia University.
Play eventually concluded with a number of participants going home with big cash prizes as well as the prospect of a job at the company in the future.
Jeremy Maletz from Columbia University finished in third place, winning $10,000, while second place and $15,000 went to Eric Eisenberg from Washington University. First place, and a cheque for $25,000, went to the University of Minnesota's Ayres Fan. A further $20,000 was distributed to other runners-up.
The popularity of college poker has shot up in recent years, to the extent that one college at Oxford University, England, was recently revealed to have helped fund the stock market flotation of a leading online poker provider.
