World Poker Finals underway at Foxwoods

2006-11-07 12:57:04

The 2006 World Poker Finals have begun at Foxwoods Casino, Connecticut, with a vast number of players competing for a host of money-spinning prizes.

Two and a half weeks' worth of intense poker playing action began on October 28th, and culminates in the $10,000 entry main event, which begins on Sunday, November 12th and runs until November 16th.

Last year 783 players competed in the main event, the World Poker Tour (WPT) No Limit Hold'Em Championship, with many more playing in the numerous variants of the game being held beforehand. Casino officials have already said that a greater number are expected to compete this year.

The final table, made up of six players battling it out for a cool $2 million prize, was won last year by 21-year-old Nick Schulman, whose life was instantly transformed by his victory.

The youngest player ever to win a WPT title, Mr Schulman had only been playing poker for four years prior to the event.
