2006-11-09 13:15:00

The recently-created UK Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT) has announced details of its inaugural poker championship.

Designed to be the APAT's flagship event, the United Kingdom Amateur Poker Championship will take place on December 2nd and December 3rd in Newcastle's Aspers Casino.

With entry open to APAT members, players can be assured of a top quality field that is sure to challenge even the greatest poker minds.

Over 200 entrants will compete for their share of the £15,000 prize fund, with the winner also receiving a $12,000 entry into next year's World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Designed to bring big poker winnings to the amateur yet skilled players of the UK, the tour has already held a championship within England, but is now extending the event to include the rest of the UK. The England-only event saw Daniel Phillips take home the Amateur crown.

Chip stacks begin at 10,000, with rules encouraging ambitious plays and bold strategies. Buy-ins are expected to cost £75.
