The end of 2006 is set to provide Las Vegas with one of its biggest poker events of the year, as the fifth annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic Tournament gets underway.
Running from December 1st until December 19th, the tournament features a host of smaller events leading up to the WPT Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic, the $15,000 buy-in event that is televised on its final day and features a vast range of famous professional faces.
With a main prize of over $2 million, it's no surprise that so many well-known names are keen to enter the tournament. But the 2005 event was won by a satellite qualifier, Rehne Pedersen, who paid just $100 to enter the original qualifying event. Second and third placed finishers in the main event this year, meanwhile, will receive $1 million and $500,000 respectively.
The tournament is held at perhaps the most famous casino in the world, the Bellagio, which is most well-known for its dancing fountains water display outside the complex.
