Televised poker returns to Binion's

2006-11-15 15:05:21

A venue widely-celebrated in poker circles because of its ties to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is making a live television comeback, it has been announced.

Binion's Horseshoe Gambling Hall and Hotel, home to every WSOP event from the inaugural tournament in 1957 through to 2003, will host the Ultimate Poker Challenge until December 11th.

The series features a mixture of amateur and professional players, with a new show, Cash Poker, also scheduled to be filmed in Binion's early next year. A permanent TV set has been erected in the casino.

Filming has already begun at the venue, which remains one of the most fondly-remembered casinos in America.

Opened by Benny Binion as the Horseshoe in 1951, the casino was the first to install facilities that are now hardly even noticed, such as carpeting and high table limits.

Remaining in the Binion family until 2004, the venue was shut down due to debt problems before Harrah's Entertainment purchased the hotel and gaming hall later that year, re-opening it a few months later.
