Poker awards nominees announced

Nominations for the European Poker Awards have been announced, with a series of big names lining up alongside less familiar faces.
The awards, which are now in their sixth year, feature a number of categories including Rookie of the Year, Tournament Performance of the Year and Player of the Year, with a special Lifetime Achievement Award to be announced at the awards ceremony itself.
Taking place at the Aviation Club in Paris on December 10th, nominees including Roland De Wolfe, David Colclough and Guardian newspaper journalist Victoria Coren will be competing for the prestigious Player of the Year category, with De Wolfe and Coren also contenders for the Tournament Performance of the Year award.
With past winners including players such as Gus Hansen, the ceremony seems set to crown more big names in 2006, with De Wolfe in pole position following a string of victories over the course of the year. De Wolfe has won over $2.4 million (£1.2 million) in 2006, with victories at events such as the Grand Prix de Paris and the European Poker Tour Dublin event.
