New research into the most popular internet trends of recent weeks has found that poker is now among the most popular terms to search for among web users, it has been revealed.
The survey, by search engine operator Lycos, examined searches for gifts across its networks for the week ending November 18th, with poker coming out on top, ahead of other popular requests such as iPod, Harry Potter and Playstation 3.
The increasing popularity of other online gambling games were also emphasised by the study, with blackjack the seventh most common search for the same period.
Broadening the range of the research produced similar results, as Lycos found that searches for poker and related items such as gaming chips were the most popular toy-based requests for the second successive year. Such searches have seen an increase of over 300 per cent in the last 12 months alone, the company reported.
Almost $2 million dollars are staked every minute on online poker sites, according to recent statistics.
