The UK's new legislation regarding casino gaming has been officially launched at the end of a month which has seen an unprecedented focus upon the issue of online regulation.
Hot on the heels of the US's Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) that was passed in October came UK culture secretary Tessa Jowell's denouncement of the law, and her claims that new UK legislation would prove to be far more effective.
Despite a failed attempt at convincing more online casinos to move on-shore, the government and Gambling Commission are still confident that the new codes of practice will be successful.
"The conditions and codes set out the rules which operators must observe to meet our three licensing objectives of keeping crime out of gambling, ensuring that gambling is fair and open, and protecting children and other vulnerable people," said commission chairman Peter Dean.
"From September next year all operators must be licensed by the Gambling Commission," Mr Dean said in a statement.
Under the new laws, online casino companies will be permitted to set up within Britain from September.
