Michigan poker cap lifted

2006-11-30 16:09:27

Caps on charitable gambling events in Michigan have been lifted, it has been announced.

The Michigan Lottery's Charitable Gaming Division has removed its $500 cap on daily winnings in such competitions, sparking an increase in audience figures and prize money in local charitable tournaments.

Michigan money-raising events have long been hindered by the fact that traditional Texas Hold'Em tournaments have been unable to say they were truly no limits &ndash the most popular form of the game.

But now the removal of the handicap means that players and spectators alike can enjoy the game in its purest form, with venues such as the Great Lake Downs among the key beneficiaries of the decision.

The first Saturday charity poker event following the decision brought out the largest number of competitors ever to compete in a Great Lake Downs tournament, with 123 players competing for the $1,400 prize, reported Shannon McDonough, owner of event organiser All-In Entertainment.
