2006-12-13 15:11:46

The European Poker Awards 2006 has announced this year's winners in a glittering ceremony at the Aviation Club de France in Paris.

Revealed over the course of a €3,000 ($4,000) buy-in tournament at the club, the awards honoured a number of UK players, while the tournament itself was dominated by French poker aces.

Jerome Zerbib took home the No Limit first prize of €140,000 ($185,000) but it was second placed Pete Evans of the UK who set the tone for the evening.

Other British triumphs included newspaper columnist Victoria Coren winning the award for Most Notable Tournament Performance of the Year for her victory in a European Poker Tour (EPT) event at her home venue in Victoria, London.

Elsewhere, former television director John Duthie, from Yorkshire, England, won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in helping establish the EPT.

But it was London's Roland de Wolfe who won the big prize of Player of the Year, having won several tournaments and millions of dollars of prize money during 2006.
