Poker players break world record

2006-12-18 17:07:06

A team of committed poker players in London have set what they claim is a record for the longest uninterrupted poker session.

For a total of 43 hours and 30 minutes the 24 participants played poker, with a £20 entry fee.

The winner of the game took half the money, with the remainder going to charity, the BBC reports.

One player, Sarah Lawrence, who runs an online gaming site, said the players needed some rest but were pleased with the achievement.

"We were pretty tired towards the end but we all perked up as we counted down to the record," she told the BBC.

Guinness World Records are now set to examine whether the players have indeed broken the official world record.

Poker has become increasingly popular game and was named the number on search term on the internet by search engine Lycos last week.
