Online poker bill filed in Washington

A new attempt to reassert the rights of America's online gamblers has been made in Washington, it has been revealed.

Representative Chris Strow (R-Whidbey Island) introduced the bill in an attempt to remove state-wide restrictions on online gambling, which currently involves heavy penalties for those found engaging in the popular pastime.

As with many recent legislative protests, Mr Strow's argument is resting on the fact that poker is a game of skill.

"Most certainly choosing to gamble, or play a game of skill such as poker, should not have been made a crime equivalent to possessing child pornography or threatening the governor," he commented, according to PokerPages.com

Earlier this week Poker Players Alliance president Michael Bolcerek said that the organisation would be encouraging similar localised protests in its fight against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

"I do think that there is also a level of accountability, as an adult, to do as he or she chooses in his or her own home," Mr Strow said.
