A college student at the University of Iowa has become so successful playing online poker that he is considering abandoning his efforts at forging a career in law, it has been reported.
Dustin Dirksen has already won over $400,000 in his short career through online poker sites, with $250,000 coming in 2006 alone, reports the Des Moines Register.
The paper comments that Dirksen has roughly $100,000 in his online accounts and plays high stakes games for up to 70 hours a week.
"Right now there's just too much money in poker […] the more I play poker, the less desire I have to gamble anywhere else," he told the Register.
Dirksen is just one of a growing number of college players who find that large amounts of free time and easy internet access are almost the ideal poker playing environment.
Last month a Penn State student won $1.5 million at a Caribbean tournament during the winter break.
