Hennigan wins $1.6 million Borgata main event

2007-01-31 16:06:01

The final table at the $1.6 million Borgata Winter Poker Open has been won by John Hennigan, it has been revealed.

Hennigan saw off strong competition from the other six finalists, including John Gale, to beat retired stockbroker Chuck Kelley in the heads-up battle.

Kelley was always behind in the match-up but did not help matters in the final hand when he prematurely revealed his hand to the table. The player nonetheless walked away with almost $850,000.

A star-studded field saw the likes of Daniel Negreanu use his private jet to fly to the tournament in time for the opening hand, but it was all in vain as he failed to make the final table.

"I'm shocked right now. I've won a few tournaments in the past, and it usually doesn't sink in for the first few hours. I'm just soaking it in. Two hours from now I'll be really excited," said Hannigan after the event, according to Cardplayer.com
