New poker version played in US tournament

2007-02-14 16:06:13

The first ever duplicate poker tournament has been held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it has been revealed.

Based on the principals of the popular duplicate bridge game, the tournament featured a number of tables, with each seat at each table receiving the same cards, PokerNews has reported.

In addition chipstacks are reset after each hand, with a separate scoring chips stack being created following a complicated method of division.

Despite the presence of a number of famous professionals at the event, such as Scotty Nguyen and Chip Reese, PokerNews advised that: "As you might guess this works a lot better and a lot faster online."

The game is aimed at removing elements of luck and focusing solely on skill, with automated online casinos likely to prove far more satisfactory in quickly dividing chips into the appropriate stacks.

Other recent online innovations based on famous card games include CryptoLogic's Hold'Em Blackjack, which aims to combine traditional blackjack strategies with the bluffing aspect of poker.
