Local pubs have started see the benefits of hosting free poker nights as the "Poker in the Pub" league takes off in Britain.
Playing poker for free in the pub league with friends is gaining in popularity, especially now that this new scheme has raised competition to a national level.
Although many people still play just for fun, there are many prizes to be won for the dedicated player, including a play station or a weekend away to Paris.
The ultimate prize that the league offers is the chance to play in the finals with an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas.
For a pub to take part in the championships, there must be at least eight willing clients to join the team and each mini league should play over 12 weeks until the regional finals.
The 2007 regional finals took place in five locations across the UK this year, in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Lincoln and Exeter.
Top agents who organise the events in their local areas can earn around £600 per week, the scheme claims.
