Poker players in the US frustrated by curbs on gambling enforced under last year's Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) have nonetheless found ways to carry on betting, a new survey has revealed.
Research by online security firm Scansafe found that a significant proportion of its customer base was still attempting to gamble online during January.
In fact, the number of users trying to play their favourite online casino games rose by some 77 per cent last month, Scansafe's tracking devices have shown.
Officials from the firm believe that even users blocked from gambling online by internet technologies were still finding ways to play.
"We suspected [the law] wouldn't have much of an impact. Some gambling sites will simply develop alternative payment mechanisms," said Scansafe product strategy vice president Dan Nadir.
A number of online poker players from the US and beyond have found themselves unable to access their Neteller e-wallet accounts following the arrest of the firm's co-founders in the US last month.
