A former New York senator could join the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) in their ongoing fight against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), it has been reported.
Alfonse D'Amato could assist the alliance via his Park Strategies lobbying group, PokerNews.com has reported.
Comments made by industry insider Wendeen Eolis also indicated a possible collaboration: "The PPA has proposed its chairmanship to Mr. D'Amato on bended knee," she said in an article for Poker Player Newspaper.
Mr D'Amato was a New York senator for three terms, and became widely known for his abrasive style. A keen poker player known to have played with the likes of Howard Stern, D'Amato also provided two of the longest filibusters in senate history, with his stubborn style now set to be utilised by the PPA.
The UIGEA was passed by congress in September last year and prevents banks from processing transactions to do with online gambling.
