Despite the recent passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, US gamers are continuing to gamble online, research has suggested.
The online security vendor Safescan, who published the report, revealed that, despite selling website blocking services to clients, they are still reporting that employees are still gaining access to gambling sites.
The firm confirmed that requested hits to gaming sites by its client's employees were up by 77 per cent in the last week of January in comparison to the beginning of the month.
The legislation passed by the Department of Justice effectively made online gambling illegal in the US, while the recent decision of the online payment processor Neteller to cease doing business in the country mean US gamers have fewer options for making deposits and withdrawals at online casinos.
However, there has been a rise in offshore gaming, with US citizens turning to online casinos based outside their own country in an effort to overcome these legal obstacles and Safescan stated their opinion that the recent increase in requested hits to gambling sites is a result of players searching for online casinos willing to take US dollars.
