The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Ladies Poker Championship has been held at Harrah's Rincon in Puerto Rico, creating a new WSOP speed record in the process.
The event was won by Linda Schmidt, who caused a stir in doing so by triumphing at the final table in just one hour and 12 minutes.
That broke the record for the fastest ever final table in WSOP circuit history, beating the previous one hour and 20 minute record.
Schmidt won over $8,000 for her efforts as well as a gold pendant, the Poker Player Newspaper has reported. Schmidt out-fought 146 other competitors in the $200 buy-in event, but did not have it all her own way.
As heads-up play began Schmidt was outstacked by two to one, with fellow competitor Tammy Brown looking to be in a good position. A key hand saw Schmidt make a straight once Brown had called her all-in bet, which ultimately spelled the beginning of the end for the live poker debutant.
