Women's guide offers new take on poker

2007-02-28 16:15:09

A new guidebook aimed at discovering why female poker players are becoming more and more successful at the card game has hit the shelves.

Women's Poker Night intends to attract the growing number of female players who find themselves attracted to the game, in spite of poker traditionally being conceived of as a 'man's game'.

While such times are now gone, the book nonetheless highlights the extent to which female players are still marginalised by fellow competitors, while also providing an insight into how females may use such prejudices to their advantage at the table.

The recent eCogra gambling survey, the largest of its kind every conducted, found that while the majority of online poker players were male, the average online casino player is in fact now more likely to be female.

In addition, women were found to be more likely to gamble while at work, with 9.1 per cent of those surveyed doing so compared to 7.6 per cent of men.
