Hoivold wins first ever German EPT event

2007-03-12 16:10:54

Norwegian Andreas Hoivold has continued his string of good results with a win in the inaugural German European Poker Tour event in Dortmund.

The €5,000 buy-in event provided a prize pool worth €2.35 million, with Hoivold himself walking away with €672,000 after seeing off Cristiano Blanco in the heads-up contest.

Hoivold turned professional just seven months ago, but found form almost immediately with a third place finish at the Poker Million tournament in December.

The final contest did not last long, with Blanco defeated in just two hands' worth of one-on-one competition. Blanco had moved all in with ten and nine but was comprehensively beaten by Hoivold's pair of Queens, which became even stronger with the addition of a third on the flop.

A brief chance of a straight kept the hand alive until the turn, when Hoivold was able to claim both victory and the lucrative winner's cheque.
