Hyman sees off pros at Wynn Classic

2007-03-13 15:58:55

Zachary Hyman has come out on top at the first ever Wynn Poker Classic as he saw off a field of seasoned professionals to record his first ever major tournament victory.

The final table featured names such as Matusow, Mizrachi and Fischman, but it was the unknowns who dominated, leaving Hyman alongside Chris Moore as they took on the better known Ted Lawson and Chris Roos for the top four spots.

The $10,000 buy-in event saw Hyman begin the final table in seventh place, and Moore in ninth, but the Californian eventually came through to take home the $750,000 prize, with Moore himself finishing third.

In the end it came down to a heads-up contest between Hyman and Ted Lawson, with a flopped straight enough to see off Lawson's set of queens, leaving the latter to take home a sizeable $384,000 second place prize.
