Poker players should join the Poker Players' Alliance (PPA) if they want to see the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act revoked, according to a leading US gaming law specialist.
Anthony Cabot made the suggestion following weeks of rumours regarding the act's uncertain future and growing opposition to the ruling. Earlier this month it was announced that former New York senator Alfonse D'Amato was to become the new chairman of the PPA.
Now Mr Cabot has advised that a show of solidarity would send a strong message to Washington over the UIGEA's unpopularity.
"Congress will not act to protect your rights unless they think by not doing so it may impact their ability to get re-elected," he commented, according to a memo published by the 2+2 website.
"I know of no other organization other than the PPA that has the capability of uniting the poker world in this cause. My guess is that the PPA needs a million members to begin to have such an impact. I think the PPA deserves the support of the poker world," added Mr Cabot.
